Director of the Division of Economic Analysis
Carlos holds a PhD degree in economics from Universidad Autónoma in Madrid and previously he got a Master Degree in Economic Analysis from the London School of Economics and a BA in Economics from the University of Extremadura. He joined the Spanish Corp of State Economists in 2008 and worked for a three-year period as an economic analyst in the Directorate General for Macroeconomic Analysis and International Economics at the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Most of his work back then was related to econometric/DSGE modeling and impact estimation of fiscal and structural policies. In 2011 he started a secondment at the European Commission as a National Expert within the Directorate General of Economic and Financial Affairs, carrying out responsibilities related to the implementation of the Macroeconomic Imbalances Procedure. Notably monitoring and analysing real estate markets and private sector balance sheets. After his stay in Brussels, he joined the newly created Spanish Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF). First as Head of Unit in charge of Public Debt Sustainability Analysis, he is now Head of the Economic Analysis Division, leading the work in macroeconomic forecasting and public debt sustainability analysis.
