“Our mission is to guarantee effective compliance of the financial sustainability principle by the General Goverment”

    Transport infrastructure study

This Spending Review Phase II study focuses on analyzing the efficiency of transport infrastructures and making proposals for improvement. Specifically, it recommends improving the selection of infrastructure investments in order to increase their social and economic profitability and satisfy the mobility needs of citizens.

After joining the European Union in the mid-1980s, Spain began an enormous investment effort in all transport infrastructures, with the aim of converging and connecting its networks with those of the rest of Europe. This period of powerful investments culminated in 2009, the year in which spending began to fall gradually until 2018, when the ratio of investment in transport infrastructure to GDP reached its lowest level since 1985.
