The public healthcare system of the Balearic Islands has undergone significant expansion over the past two decades, as reflected in the steady growth of its budget—now exceeding 2 billion euros—and a substantial increase in its workforce of healthcare professionals. This investment effort, which is proportionally greater than that of the National Health System as a whole, demonstrates a firm commitment to strengthening healthcare capacity. However, this quantitative progress has not succeeded in resolving a series of structural challenges that limit the system’s efficiency and effectiveness.
This study summarizes the assessment of these critical areas through a list of findings and outlines a set of proposals aimed at modernizing management, optimizing public resources, and ensuring quality healthcare.
